ACC, India’s foremost manufacturer of cement and concrete has rolled out operations at it’s newly built Rs 350—crore Greenfield plant at Thondebhavi in Karnataka on Saturday. The new plant would help it to achieve its manufacturing targets of 8.8 million tones per year in the State.
ACC Managing Director, Mr. Sumit Banerjee told, “The Thondebhavi project is part of a larger expansion project being implemented by ACC in Karnataka which will enhance our capacity in the state by three mtpa from 5.8 mtpa now.”
The new plant is designed to produce fly—ash based portland pozzolana Cement. The Thondebhavi plant, having a 1.60 mtpa grinding capacity, would get required clinger form ACC’s Wadi plant located in Gulbarga district of Karnatka.
Speaking at the inauguration function, Union Minister for Law and Justice Mr. M Veerappa Moily added that the plant would help to push state’s economy besides creating a lot of employment opportunities in the region.
ACC having large scale geographical presence in the state is expected to provide direct and indirect employment to around 1200 people. The cement manufacturer produced 20.8 million tonnes of cement in 2008 and it has 2600 selling points in every district.
