Terror attack to hit tourism

by admin on November 30, 2008

After witnessing the terror attacks in Mumbai, the horrified hospitality industry has started taking measures to tighten up the security and preparing some sort of guidelines to avoid ‘notorious guests’.

Mr S.P. Jain, managing director, Pride Group of Hotels and president, Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations, western region, said: “We are arranging meetings with the crime branch departments of various cities and seeking advice.”“We had one meeting with the Ahemadabad crime branch and took their guidance on how to tighten security and deal with terrorists,” he said.

He remarked, “We have issued a circular to our members’ stating that accommodation to the walk-in guests should not be allowed. Only those guests, who have booked rooms in advance with proper identity-proofs and documents will be entertained.”

Mr Jain said: “We will witness 25 to 30 per cent cancellation next week. If the government solves the terror plot at the earliest then the hospitality industry will not face the impact in the long-term.”

The terrorists are trying to destroy the Indian economy but the government should take strict measures to combat terror, he added.

Mr Julien Groom, COO and executive director of DB Hospitality, which owns Le Royal Meridien hotels, said: “The foreign tourists, who have already booked their tickets for holidaying in India will keep coming.”
